ormer Indonesian ambassador to the United States Dino Patti Jalal was sworn in on Monday by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as deputy foreign minister.
Dino replaces Wardana, who is now the Indonesian ambassador to Turkey.
Present during the swearing in ceremony were Vice President Boediono, Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa, Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Djoko Suyanto and State Secretary Sudi Silalahi.
Dino left his post as ambassador to the US last year to join the Democratic Party presidential convention. Dino's electability rating never rose above the single digit and his bid was left in limbo after the party failed to secure sufficient votes in the April 9 legislative election to nominate its own presidential candidate.
Prior to his stint as ambassador, Dino served as a spokesperson for Yudhoyono on foreign affairs.
