he Indian Consulate Generalin Denpasar is inviting Indian filmmakers to shoot their movies in Bali so asto lure bigger Indonesian audiences, following the success of Indian mega dramaMahabharat, which is currently being screenedhere.

'€œWe have already forged partnerships with the Indian film industry and are inviting them to come and shoot their films on the island,'€ the Indian consul general in Denpasar, AS Takhi, said on Tuesday as quoted by Antara news wire.

He said many Bollywood stars would visit Indonesia in the near future, especially Bali, but declined to name any.

He added that several Indian movies stars had visited Bali for leisure purposes, including action star Suniel Shetty. He also revealed that there had been growing interest among locals to study filmmaking, particularly documentaries.

According to the Indian Cultural Center in Renon, Denpasar, several Indian cultural activities like yoga had also lured locals to study.

Bollywood films allegedly shot in Bali include the 2011 comedy Bheja Fry 2, which was a critical failure but a hit at the Indian box office. Bollywood stars also enjoy a considerable fan base in Indonesia, with actors such as Shahrukh Khan still managing to draw crowds, during his 2012 visit in Jakarta. (dyl)
