AKARTA: Musician and producer Maia Estianty says she has accepted the offer to play in Garin Nugroho's biopic on national hero HOS Tjokroaminoto, despite her better judgment.
'[Film shooting] is tiring but the large family of Tjokroaminoto descendants requested that I accept the offer,' the mother of three was quoted as saying by tribunnews.com on Wednesday.
'Tjokroaminoto is my great grandfather,' said Maia, who will assume the role of Tjokroaminoto's mother-in-law.
The filmmakers and the cast met the press in Jakarta on Wednesday about the movie, titled Guru Bangsa: Tjokroaminoto (The Nation's Guru: Tjokroaminoto). Reza Rahadian and Christine Hakim were among the lineup.
Nationalist Haji Oemar Said Tjokroaminoto was the leader of the Muslim merchant organization Sarekat Dagang Islam and political mentor for, among others, first president Sukarno.
