he North Sumatra Police have announced that securityremains under control in Binjai following the fatal stabbing of a police'sMobile Brigade (Brimob) member by a soldier from the 7th Rimba Raya InfantryBrigade of the Bukit Barisan Military Command on Thursday evening.

'The situation remains calm,' North Sumatra Police chief Insp. Gen. Eko Hadi Sutedjo said on Friday.

Brig. Beni Sihombing, 32, a Brimob bomb squad member, was allegedly fatally stabbed by Second Sgt. Akhiruddin on Thursday evening.

Eko stressed that the two had clashed over a personal matter and that the case had nothing to do with the military and police conflict in Batam, Riau Islands.

Bukit Barisan Military Command chief spokesman Brig. Gen. Soemantri said Akhiruddin surrendered on Friday and was undergoing questioning at the military police headquarters in Medan.
