'Happy 9th birthday in heaven my beloved nephew,' Adi Kwok Handojo wrote on his Facebook account remembering his nephew, William Wijaya, one of 155 passengers on Air Asia flight QZ8501.
William, who was a third grader at SD Bina Bangsa River Side elementary school in Malang, East Java, was supposed to celebrate his birthday on Thursday.
'I believe you and your family are having a fantastic party up there with God. I will always remember your sweet smile and your toy car collection. We all love you,' Adi said as quoted by Antara news agency.
William and four of his family members ' his parents Eko Wijaya and Susandhini Liman, and his two elder siblings Marilyn Wijaya and Alfred Wijaya ' left for Singapore for a holiday at the end of the year.
William's elder brother and sister were eighth and 10th graders, respectively, at the same school.
Some of Adi's Facebook friends expressed their concern over the tragedy that had befallen the family.
For Adi, his elder brother Eko was a role model, as he guided Adi to be closer to God, according to a Facebook status written on Dec. 30.
Adi also described Eko as his teacher, saying he always tried to protect him. Eko's mother, Sumargasari, said Christmas 2014 was her last meeting with her son.
'I still hope my son and his family will return to Surabaya safely,' Sumargasari said.
Meanwhile, also on social media, flight attendant Khairunisa Hidar Fauzi took to her Instagram account two weeks before boarding flight QZ8501 from Surabaya to Singapore, which crashed and was found in pieces in Teluk Hitam waters in the Karimata Strait off West Kalimantan on Dec. 30.
'I love you from 38,000 ft,' wrote Khairunisa, who was among seven crew members on the aircraft.
Her love is now remembered by her father Haidar Fauzi.
'As usual, before flying, she called her mother, She said she would return home to Palembang, South Sumatra, on Jan. 6, 2015, to celebrate her eldest brother Rahmad Hidayat's 30th birthday,' said Haidar.
Khairunisa was born in Palembang on May 11, 1992. At present, she is still listed as a final-year law student at Sriwijaya University in Palembang.
While studying, Khairunisa worked as a stewardess for Air Asia for two years, during which time she lived in a boarding house in Sidoarjo, East Java.
'Khairunisa was a good child. She was very caring to the family. She often sent money to her mother,' Haidar told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.
Upon learning more than 10 hours after the flight's scheduled arrival at Changi Airport in Singapore that the plane his daughter was on had lost contact with ground control, Haidar immediately headed to Surabaya on Dec. 28.
After receiving confirmation that bodies and pieces of the plane had been found, Haidar followed the antemortem process for victims' relatives conducted by the East Java Police's Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) at Juanda International Airport in Surabaya.
The East Java Police's Medical Division has been conducting identifications since Tuesday while waiting for the arrival of more bodies in Surabaya. The identification process is set to run parallel with body and item collection as well as antemortem, labeling, postmortem and data comparison phases.
'I can only resign myself to fate and hope for the best for my smallest daughter,' Haidar said.
