he Bogor Regency administration in West Java and the administration of Nanning city, China, are establishing bilateral cooperation by signing a letter of intent (LOI) in the education, sports and tourism sectors.
"The LOI will help realize the sister-city cooperation between Bogor and Nanning. A cooperation agreement had previously been signed by both administrations," administrative head of Bogor Regency Nurhayanti said on Monday as quoted by Antara news agency.
Nurhayanti said that the sister-city cooperation included the development of the local economy, investment, and the management of the environment and infrastructure.
The sister-city agreement itself aims to strengthen cooperation in education, sports, tourism, and some other fields that have been agreed by both administrations.
Nurhayanti said the communication between the Bogor and Nanning administrations had been carried out intensively so that it was expected to help promote Bogor's tourism, arts and culture to the Chinese, and vice versa.
She said that cooperation in the field of education encompassed school partnerships, setting the international curriculum and organizing examinations for the students graduating from partner schools.
According to Deputy Mayor of Nanning Guo Min, the sister-city program will strengthen the relationship between both countries and improve the quality of human resources, especially in the fields outlined in the cooperation.
"We should cooperate as we are sister cities," she said, adding that her city's administration would grant scholarships to Bogor students to study in Nanning.
In return, she invited the Bogor administration to take part in the international expo in Nanning. (hhr)(++++)
