he Soccer Association of Indonesia (PSSI) announced on Friday that it had disbanded the Under-19 and Under-16 national soccer teams following FIFA's sanctions against the organization.
The decision was taken because FIFA's sanctions have resulted in both teams being barred from taking part in any international competitions.
'Today is not a good day for us because starting today the U-16 [side] has been officially disbanded,' PSSI spokesperson Tommy Welly said as quoted by tribunnews.com
The coach for U-16 soccer team Fachry Husaini said the decision also affected the U-19 team.
'As of today, the U-16 and U-19 teams are dissolved because there is no competition that we can participate in.'
PSSI's decision was made after both teams were disqualified from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup. (ika)(+++)
