ouse of Representatives deputy speaker Taufik Kurniawan said that the House will approve any security measure the government or the military might take in the wake of border incursions by Malaysia in Indonesian waters off Ambalat, North Kalimantan.
The National Mandate Party (PAN) lawmaker explained that if subsequent warnings by Indonesia are not heeded by Malaysia regarding the border incursions, the government should start to think about using non-administrative methods to resolve the issue.
'Nine times did Malaysia violate Indonesia's borders at Ambalat [this year]. Nine! Maybe our complaint letters or phone calls did not get to the Malaysian government or something. There needs to be effective warnings made because this concerns our territorial sovereignty,' Taufik told reporters on Wednesday.
He elaborated further that the Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo government currently has a drone aircraft program that can deal with such an issue, with it being part of the government's efforts to strengthen national security.
'This is a classic conflict. We will support any national security measures taken by the Defense Ministry or the military,' he added. (hhr)(+++)
