Jakarta Governor Basuki âAhokâ Tjahaja Purnama claims to have achieved many advances in the capital city
Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama claims to have achieved many advances in the capital city.
'So far so good,' he said after presiding over a ceremony to celebrate Jakarta's 488th anniversary at the National Monument (Monas) square in Central Jakarta on Monday.
He said the advancements could be measured by looking at how many people squatting on river banks and state land had been relocated to cheap flats and by looking at how many illegal buildings had been bulldozed and converted into inspection roads and how many rivers had been renovated to minimize floods.
'Many rivers have been cleaned. You can see that major rivers have been cleansed of rubbish. You can make a comparison after I leave the city administration,' he told reporters.
The governor has also claimed to have reduced the number of school dropouts and provided healthcare to all low-income people.
So far, the city has succeeded in developing 44 regional general hospitals to provide healthcare services to poor people.
'All of it can be measured with the human development index. Besides, we have contributed many buses, renovated public parks and installed CCTV in strategic areas to improve security in the city,' he said as quoted by tribunnews.com.
He admitted that he had not yet succeeded in helping residents cope with traffic jams and had not yet provided cheap public transportation. (rms)
