T

he demand for heavy equipment in Indonesia fell by about 30 percent in the first semester due to a steady decline in the international demand for commodities, said Ivan Tulong, the chief marketing officer of PT Trakindo Utama, the sole agent of Caterpillar equipment.

'€œThe industry association estimated total sales this year at only 8,000 units, down from 14,000 units last year. But actual sales in the first semester totaled only 3,000 units,'€ Tulong noted at a conference on Trakindo'€™s customer relationship management (CRM).

But he said he hoped the construction equipment market segment would be stronger in the second half as the government was revving up the implementation of its infrastructure projects in power generation, road construction and transportation.

'€œIt is especially in this difficult time that Trakindo should strengthen its commitment to providing better services tailored to the specific needs of every one of its customer segments in different areas across the country,'€ added Trakindo CRM Manager Arif Prawira.

Prawira said Trakindo, which controlled between 25 to 30 percent of the heavy equipment market in Indonesia, focused its CRM initiatives on closely monitoring the specific needs of its customers through its 60 branch networks. (vin)(++++)
