Island in focus: All 10 Aviastar passenger bodies identified

The bodies of all 10 passengers of the Aviastar plane, which crashed in Luwu, South Sulawesi on Friday, have been identified and handed over to their relatives

he bodies of all 10 passengers of the Aviastar plane, which crashed in Luwu, South Sulawesi on Friday, have been identified and handed over to their relatives.

Bodies of passengers from Luwu province, Nurul Fatimah, 26, an her two children, Rayya Adawiya, 3, and Afif,1, Riza Arman, 30, and his wife, Lisa, 29, Felentin and son, Shaki Abrori, 1, and Muhammad Natsir, 56, were buried on Thursday.

Of the remaining victims, technician Soekris was flown to his hometown of Sidoarjo, East Java, pilot Iriafriadi, 40, was flown to Jayapura, both on Wednesday night, and copilot Yudhistira Febi, 39, was returned to Denpasar on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the airline company, PT Aviastar Mandiri, will hand over insurance claims and assistance funds to the victims'€™ families worth Rp 1.25 billion (US$89,285) each. '€œWe will soon submit passenger documents to the insurance company, and claims will be soon given to the heirs of the victims,'€ Aviastar commercial business manager Petrus Budi Prasetyo said.

Also on Thursday, the state-owned transportation insurance company PT Jasa Raharja gave assistance funds of Rp 50 million to each to the victims'€™ families.

The Aviastar airplane lost contact with air-traffic controllers 11 minutes after taking off from Masamba in South Sulawesi in good weather on Friday. It was headed for Makassar, the provincial capital, and was carrying three crew members and seven passengers. After searching for three days, the search and rescue team found the crash site on Mount Latimojong in Luwu regency, around 2,700 meters above sea level.
