T

elecommunications company PT Indosat has officially renamed itself Indosat Ooredoo as it continues to shift its focus and priorities on digital services.

Indosat Ooredoo CEO Alexander Rusli explained that changes that will take place in the company will mostly be the focus on digitalization in all aspects of its operations '€” marketing, work methods and overall focus '€” to pursue a profitable future.

He further said that connectivity had emerged as the most important aspect of a modern and digitally literate society and due to widespread internet penetration in Indonesia, the company'€™s new focus would better serve the public.

The Qatar-based Ooredoo Group is the majority shareholder in Indosat with a 65 percent stake.

'€œOur focus is to eventually become the number one provider of and brand in digital services, and to aim for raking in the most revenue from the digital aspects of our company,'€ Alex told reporters on Thursday at the company'€™s office.

Meanwhile, in a written statement, Ooredoo Group chairman Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Saud al Thani said that the new strategy '€œsupports the government'€™s commitment to build a more connected Indonesia by granting better public access to the digital economy'€.

As a result of the rebranding, which Alex said took two years to finalize, Indosat'€™s plan to launch its new 4G/LTE network services has been delayed until next week. It was supposed to be launched on Nov. 20 to mark Indosat'€™s 48th anniversary.

Indosat noted 155 percent growth in data user numbers in the third quarter of 2015, year-on-year from 2014.
