The East Java Police have issued a telegram to officers following revelations of a terrorist plot to deliver cyanide-tainted food to police officers.
"We issued a telegram in anticipation of a terror attack that may use the chemical substance cyanide," East Java Police chief Insp. Gen. Anton Setiadji said on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.
The plan was inspired by the poisoning of Wayan Mirna Salihin, who died after drinking cyanide-spiked coffee at a cafe in Jakarta in early January, Anton said.
The police chief warned all officers to be aware when eating at food stalls or receiving food from unknown persons.
The police also plan to carry out information campaigns to alert the public to the possibility of the new approach taken by terrorist groups. (cal/dan)
