Continuing the popular franchise, DreamWorks Animation's Kung Fu Panda returns with a new adventure. This time, the audience has the chance to get to know Po's family and his past.
The story begins with an old friend of Grand Master Oogway (Randall Duk Kim), Kai (J.K. Simmons), returning from the spirit world and defeating all kung fu masters. Kai can only be defeated by a master of true chi, an ability owned by a panda. Meanwhile, a panda named Li Shan (Bryan Cranston) arrives at Po's (Jack Black) home, the Valley of Peace. It is soon discovered that Li is actually Po's father.
Unfortunately, the reunion does not happen peacefully as Kai goes to the village, destroying everything and attacking Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Monkey (Jackie Chan), Viper (Lucy Liu) and Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman). Can Po save his friends and the people of the Valley of Peace? What happens to Crane (David Cross) and Mantis (Seth Rogen)? Is Li's existence related to Kai's attack?
Kung Fu Panda 3 is both entertaining and packed with a moral story.
Despite Po's kung fu skills having improved since the first movie, he once again becomes a victim of self doubt, a weakness the audience can easily relate to. And, of course, it does not hurt that Po is lovable, cheerful and has a somewhat innocent attitude. The film's dialogue is also easy to understand yet meaningful.
Some scenes contain martial art elements, yet are fun to watch for children. All in all, the movie has all the potential to brighten up your day -- and make you hungry for some dumplings. (kes)
