ndonesian tax expert B. Bawono Kristiaji has won the Confédération Fiscale Européenne's (CFE) Albert J. Radler award, the first Indonesian and the first non-European to accept the prestigious tax-study award

Kristiaji, a tax partner at the Danny Darussalam Tax Center (DDTC), won the award after his thesis on "Incentives and Disincentives of Profit Shifting in Developing Countries" was chosen as the best tax thesis in the Europe.

“His thesis is very thorough and relevant to the contemporary situation, with sharp conclusions, combining economic and legal approaches. It can be used as a reference in formulating tax policies, both in developing and developed countries,” said the jury panel in a press statement on Friday.

In his thesis, Kristiaji describes how income-tax policy for corporate tax payers affects multinational companies’ behavior in transferring their net income from their subsidiaries operating in developing countries.

He gathered data from more than 8,000 subsidiaries of multinational companies operating in 29 developing countries over the course of eight years, from 2005 to 2013.

“I hope this achievement can inspire others,” said Kristiaji in his remarks at the reception ceremony  held during the CFE Annual International Tax Conference  on Thursday night.

Kristiaji gained a Master's in taxation from the School of Economics and Management at Tilburg University in the Netherlands, sponsored by the Danny Darussalam Tax Center.

CFE is the Europe’s largest association of professional tax experts and consultants. Established in 1959 in Brussels, it has a membership of more than 100,000 tax experts in 21 European countries. (ags)
