ata released by the Jakarta Education Agency reveal that 21 of 51,190 senior high school students and 24 of 64,373 vocational school students throughout the city have failed to pass their final exams.
The same data show that seven of the 14 senior high schools where students failed to pass the exam are located in South Jakarta, while the rest are located in Central Jakarta (4), West Jakarta (2) and East Jakarta (1).
Muhammad Husin, Senior High School Curriculum head at the agency, said Saturday that the recently held national exam was not the only consideration in deciding if a student could pass the final year, adding that each school played an important role as well through their teacher council meetings.
“The national exam is an instrument to measure the students’ capability and assess the quality of education programs and units” Husni said, as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
He added that students who failed to pass the final year were obligated to repeat the year, while students who failed to reach a mark of at least 5.6 in the national exam were allowed to retake the test in August.
