udges of the Jakarta Anti-Corruption Court declared former lawmaker from the Hanura Party Dewie Yasin Limpo guilty of graft and sentenced her to six years in prison on Monday.
Dewie, a former member of the House of Representatives' Commission VII overseeing energy affairs, and her staffer Bambang Wahyu Hadi were found guilty of accepting S$177,700 (US$130,985) in bribes for approving budget funding of Rp 50 billion ($3.76 million) for the establishment of a micro hydro-power plant in Deiyai regency, Papua, in 2015.
Presiding Judge Masud sentenced each of Dewie and Bambang to six years' imprisonment and a Rp 200 million fine for their involvement in the graft case.
The verdict was lower than the nine years' imprisonment sought by prosecutors.
Dewie, sobbing upon hearing the verdict, maintained her innocence.
"I am the victim. I was fired as a lawmaker and sent to prison. For the sake of the public I was detained, but I did not commit corruption. I did not cause state losses or steal people's money," she told the court as quoted by Antara news agency on Monday.
Dewie and Bambang received the money from the head of Deiyai Mining Agency Irenius Adii and from Setiady Jusuf of PT Abdi Bumi Cendrawasih through Dewie's private assistant Rinelda Bandoso.
Both Irenius and Setiady were sentenced to two years in prison and a Rp 50 million fine, while Rinelda was sent to prison for four years and given a Rp 200 million fine. (rin)
