Kerta Jaya train serving the Jakarta-Surabaya route caught fire near Tanjung Priok station in North Jakarta on Thursday. Fortunately, there were no passengers inside when the incident occurred.
North Jakarta Fire Department head Nasriadi said a railway operator cleaning service worker encountered the fire at 1 p.m. The fire was caused by an electricity error in the generator set, he added.
“The fire started in a restaurant car of the train, where the generator set was placed,” said Nasriadi as reported by kompas.com.
Indra Irawan, the worker who encountered the fire, told Nasriadi that the train was moving from the direction of Senen station in Central Jakarta when he saw the fire.
Eight fire trucks were sent to the scene and managed to extinguished the fire in less than an hour. (bbn)
