medical doctor at Abdi Waluyo hospital testified in a court hearing against defendant Jessica Kumala Wongso that the late Wayan Mirna Salihin was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital at 6 p.m. on Jan. 6.
Witness Prima Yudho was on duty at the hospital's emergency unit that day and was the doctor who checked on Mirna's condition. He told the court on Monday that Mirna's heartbeat and breath had stopped before doctors examined her at the hospital.
"She had no response. However, to comply with the standard operating procedure, we conducted cardiopulmonary resuscitation [CPR] on her for about 15 minutes," Prima told judges at the Central Jakarta District Court.
The CPR did not work, he said. The electrocardiogram also confirmed that Mirna's heart had stopped beating. Her pupils gave no response to light or infusion. Her lips were pale and her hands and feet were cold. After the unsuccessful CPR attempt, the hospital declared Mirna dead at 6:30 p.m. as stated in the medical report, Prima said.
Fellow witness Ardianto, another doctor who handled Mirna at Abdi Waluyo, said that doctors had conducted a CT scan on Mirna to check if she had died from a brain hemorrhage. However, results came out negative. Mirna's outer condition was normal and it was only her lips that looked bluish, he added.
In that time, Mirna's father Dermawan Salihin told the doctors that he suspected that Mirna had been poisoned. Ardianto testified that Dermawan asked for doctors to test Mirna's gastric samples. (rin)
