A Transjakarta bus hit a lane separator and a traffic light on Jl. Gunung Sahari in Central Jakarta on Tuesday morning.

“There were no victims in this accident. The driver said he was sleepy during the incident,” said Adj. Comr. Bremen, who heads the accident unit of the Central Jakarta Police’s traffic division.

The bus, which serves Corridor V from Ancol in North Jakarta to Kampung Melayu in East Jakarta, had caused serious damage and had to be craned out of the accident site, Bremen added.

The incident occurred near the Golden Trully shopping mall traffic light at 7.15 a.m. Soon after the traffic light had turned green, the bus suddenly turned right and hit a lane separator and traffic light.

“Assisted by the police, we are still investigating the cause of the accident,” said Transjakarta spokesman Prasetya Budi, adding that buses should bypass the affected section of Corridor V, as the Transjakarta lane was still blocked. (bbn)
