T

he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has officially detained Cimahi Mayor Atty Suharti and her husband Itoc Tochija after naming them suspects in a bribery case.

“They are being detained for further investigation,” KPK spokesperson Yuyuk Andriati said on Saturday as reported by kompas.com.

Besides Atty and Itoc, Yuyuk said the commission also detained two businessmen, Triswara Dhanu Brata and Hendriza Soleh Gunadi, who were allegedly involved in the case.

The four suspects were arrested in a sting operation on Thursday night. KPK investigators also seized a deposit book that noted a cash withdrawal of Rp 500 million (US$38,000).

“The money had been given to Itoc,” KPK deputy chairperson Basaria Panjaitan alleged on Friday night.

Basaria accused the businessmen of bribing the mayor of the West Java town as they wanted to be selected as contractors for the development of the Baru Atas market, a project worth Rp 57 billion. (jun)
