View all search resultsndonesian swimmer I Gede Siman Sudartawa clocked in at 25.12 seconds in the men’s 50-meter backstroke to snatch a sixth gold medal for the country at the fourth Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Tuesday.
It was the second gold medal for Siman in the 2017 Baku games after earning one in the men’s 100-m backstroke, Antara reported.
Indonesian swimmers have collected three gold medals so far in the games, which will run until May 22.
“Respect to our swimmers as they’ve done great with three golds so far. Hopefully, the achievement will inspire other Indonesian athletes,” said Harlin Rahardjo, chief of the Indonesian Swimming Association (PRSI).
Indonesia has garnered a pile of medals at Baku 2017 with 12 silver and 12 bronze.
Besides Siman, Gagarin Nathaniel Yus also bagged a gold medal in the men’s 200-m breaststroke.
In all sports, Indonesia has pocketed five gold medals, 13 silver and 14 bronze.
