T

he Indonesian mixed-doubles pair of Praveen Jordan and Debby Susanto has failed to bring home any Australia Open 2017 medals and the two must satisfy themselves with a runner-up position after bowing to their Chinese opponents Zheng Siwei and Chen Qingchen through rubber sets of 21-18, 14-21 and 17-21.

The Praveen/Debby pair managed to steal the first game following an early 3-9 loss in points and sealed it with a 21-18.  But then when the same situation presented itself to the Indonesian pair in the second game, when they already had a 10-3 lead, they failed to show persistence so their Chinese opponents managed to not only level up but also take a 14-21 victory.

“We were impatient and ignored the opponents’ strength. That was fatal, but we learned our lesson and will try not to be trapped in the same mistakes in the following matches,” Praveen told badmintonindonesia.org.

Beforehand, the men doubles pair of Hendra Setiawan (Indonesia) and Tan Boon Heong (Malaysia) also bowed to their Japanese opponents, Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda with two straight sets of 17-21 and 19-21 in the final round.

The Indonesian contingent brought home no titles from the tournament. (dic)
