hese are some of the developments we're watching right now.
- After weathering criticism that its early move against the Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) was inept, the government has now taken a more hands-on step in its goal to disband the hard-line Islamic organization. The government took the first step last week when Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Wiranto announced that the government issued a regulation in lieu of law (Perppu) stipulating that any organizations deemed anti-Pancasila would be subject to an outright ban by the government, which no longer has to go to court to make the decision. Today, the Law and Human Rights Ministry took the second step to finally disband the HTI by issuing a regulation revoking its license.
- Barely recovering from a crisis that was sparked by his son’s meeting with a Russian lawyer at the Trump Tower last year, United States President Donald Trump faces another backlash from a revelation that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin had an additional, previously undisclosed chat at this month's G20 summit in Hamburg.
- We’re also following the developments on the fate of House of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named him a suspect in the electronic ID card (e-ID) graft case. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo this morning backed the antigraft body’s move against Setya, saying it had followed the rules and procedures.
