  • In what could be seen as a political victory for the ruling coalition led by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo himsef, the House of Representatives in the wee hours of Friday morning endorsed a new election bill that keeps the presidential nomination threshold at 20 percent of House seats and 25 percent of the popular vote for political parties to be able to field a presidential ticket. The National Mandate Party, now a member of the ruling coalition, could be on the chopping block for its decision to vote against the proposal.

  • Exactly 100 days after an acid attack that severely damaged his left eye, Corruption Eradication Eradication (KPK) investigator Novel Baswedan began surgery on Thursday on the eye, which is now in worse condition.

  • We also learned this morning that lead singer of the Los Angeles-based rock band Linkin Park, Chester Bennington, has apparently committed suicide, shocking millions of fans. His death comes less than two months after the suicide of Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell, who was also a close friend of Bennington. With its debut album Hybrid Theory, and its follow-up Meteora, Linkin Park's music channels the angst of millions of youths worldwide.
