refinery owned by Pertamina in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, has produced the environmentally friendly Dex High Quality (PertaDex HQ) diesel fuel, which has a maximum sulfur content of 50 parts per million (ppm), the state-owned energy company said.
PertaDex HQ is categorized as high-quality fuel because its minimal Cetane Number (CN) is 53, which is good for vehicles with common rail direct fuel injection (CRDi) engines.
CRDi is a direct fuel injection system for petrol and diesel engines.
Pertamina’s Kalimantan communications manager Alicia Irzanova said on Wednesday that the success in producing PertaDex HQ had encouraged the company to develop higher quality fuel, like Euro 4 fuels.
“Pertamina is committed to creating environmentally friendly fuel. After this, Pertamina will develop fuel that meets the Euro 4 standard,” she said.
The commercial production of PertaDex HQ stared in July and its distribution to Balikpapan's gas stations had already started on Wednesday.
Alicia expressed her optimism that PertaDex HQ would be widely accepted by vehicle owners because the fuel was good for cars like Toyota's Innova, Fortuner and Hilux, Mitsubishi's Pajero and Triton, as well as the Ford Ranger, Chevrolet Captiva and BMW Diesel. (bbn)
