ive children living in Jakarta Social Agency social housing snatched five medals in a recently concluded martial arts tournament involving 300 participants across Greater Jakarta.

Ismail and Manda won silver, while Dean, Yunda and Aliya grabbed bronze medals at the tournament, which ran from Saturday to Sunday last week.

“The kids have long prepared for the tournament. We regularly take part in such tournaments to boost their confidence,” said Ucu Rahayu, the head of Putra Utama 3 orphanage, where the five kids live.

The participants came from regular schools and Islamic boarding schools in Greater Jakarta.

“The result shows that although they live in an orphanage, they can still achieve their goals. We are always trying to facilitate their potential and interests,” Ucu said. (fac)
