round 1,000 people plan to stage a rally on Thursday afternoon demanding the closure of the Alexis Hotel in North Jakarta, which is rumored to host high-class prostitution services.
The plan has gone viral on social media and will be led by a group calling itself the North Jakarta Community Forum Presidium.
Responding to the plan, Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said the police had yet to receive the notification letter.
“We haven’t received the letter of notification. If there is any, we’ll analyze it,” Argo said on Tuesday.
During their election campaign earlier this year Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno promised to close down the hotel in a move aimed at pleasing their conservative Muslim supporters.
Argo said the police would back up the administration in security measures.
The Alexis Hotel is allegedly used as high-class brothel but has remained untouched by the city administration.
The city administration during Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama leadership closed down the Kalijodo red-light district and turned it into a green space. (cal/wnd/wit)
