T

he Jakarta Police will summon train operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) and two of its contractors in connection with an investigation for alleged corruption in the railway underpass project along the southern perimeter of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

A section of the railway underpass's retaining wall collapsed on Feb. 5 after a heavy rain, burying a passing car carrying two people, injuring one and killing the other. Airport police claimed that they had spotted a crack in the retaining wall following the accident.

“We will question several people from PT KAI and some of the contractors starting July 5,” Jakarta Police corruption investigation head Adj. Comr. Bhakti Suhendarwan said on Tuesday as quoted by tribunnews, com.

He said the police planned to summon eight people from PT KAI for questioning on July 5 to 10. The police would then summon representatives of contractors PT Virama Karya and PT Wakita Kakrya, he added.

“We will summon five people [from the contractors] on July 11, 12 and 13,” said Bhakti.

He said the case was initially being handled by the National Police criminal investigation unit, and was only recently transferred to the Jakarta Police. (ami)
