outh Korea’s Na Ah-reum continued her winning streak by dominating the women's road race on Wednesday. The 28-year-old covered the 104.4-kilometer route in 2 hours 55 minutes 47 seconds, earning her the gold medal.

The silver medal went to China’s Pu Yixian, 25, who finished 1 minute and 20 seconds behind the champion after winning a close fight against Japan’s Eri Yonamine, 27.

Na’s victory on Wednesday added another gold to her existing medal’s tally of one gold in the individual pursuit category, one silver in team pursuit and one bronze in the omnium – all of which she collected in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games in South Korea.

Her latest win was attributable to her remarkable stamina and speed, which kept her opponents at bay. Supported by teammate Lee Ju-mi, Na broke away after trailing behind a group that included Indonesia’s Yanti Fuchiyanti early in the race.

Yanti had built a two-minute lead before being overtaken by a chasing pack in the last 35 km.

Once in the lead, Na never looked back with a cruising speed under control. She accelerated in the last 8 km on an ascending section of the route, speeding away from the town of Subang with Yunamine and other cyclists from Thailand, Vietnam and China trailing close behind.

Going into the last 5 km of the race, Na sped up for a 20-second lead into the finish line.

A fierce competition for the runner-up position ensued in the last 200 meters among three cyclists, with Yixian eventually beating Yunamine and Hong Kong's Yang Qianyu.

Yanti and teammate Azizah Farchana crossed the finish line in 16th and 15th position, respectively, approximately six minutes behind the champion.
