T

he National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has urged the parents of a man alleged to have been involved in the assault of military personnel to file a police report after their home was ransacked by an unidentified mob on Tuesday.

The mob reportedly went to the house hours before ravaging Ciracas Police station in East Jakarta, following an attack on a naval officer in a parking lot in front of a shop in Ciracas on Monday.

Moreover, the mother of the suspect said that her son, identified as AP, was taken by the police without warrant.

“They came here saying that they wanted to move my son to avoid [the mob] from ravaging this house,” Ramlah said over the weekend as quoted by tempo.co.

Commenting on the incident, Komnas HAM member Amirudin suggested that the homeowner report the case to the police.

"The perpetrators should face legal proceedings, regardless of who they are." Amirudin said on Saturday.

The family has not decided as to whether it would file a police report.

"The victims should report the case to the police. They can report it as well to Komnas HAM," he said.

Separatedly, Ciracas Police chief Comr. Agus Widartono declined to comment on the case. (ars)
