akarta Governor Anies Baswedan has said he would thoroughly check any reports of operations on a reclaimed islet in the Jakarta Bay.

“We will check everything. Do not expect to go unpunished [if rules are being broken],” he told reporters in Jakarta on Wednesday.

“Everything you do requires permits,” he added.

Anies said the man-made islet --called Pantai Maju or previously islet D-- had been opened to the public, meaning that anyone could enter the islet.

Still, any business activity required permits, he emphasized.

Earlier this week, it was reported that a food court had been in operation for almost a month on Pantai Maju.

The food court comprising 25 food stalls reportedly draws a big crowd in the evening despite the fact that the city administration had sealed hundreds of buildings on the man-made islets in June last year and revoked permits for 13 reclaimed islets in September last year.

The 13 islets affected by the decision are islets A, B and E developed by PT Kapuk Naga Indah, islets I, J and K by PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol, islet M by PT Manggala Krida Yudha, islets O and F by PT Jakarta Propertindo, islets P and Q by PT KEK Marunda Jakarta, islet H by PT Taman Harapan Indah and islet I by PT Jaladri Kartika Pakci.

Of the 17 islets, projects have been completed on four; C and D developed by Kapuk Naga Indah, islet G by PT Muara Wisesa Samudra and islet N by PT Pelindo II. The names of the first three islets were changed in November to Pantai Kita for islet C, Pantai Maju for islet D and Pantai Bersama for islet G.
