motorcyclist went into a tantrum and destroyed his own motorbike on Thursday after a South Tangerang police officer ticketed him for wrong-way driving on Jl. Letnan Soetopo, Serpong.

"The scene took place at around 6:36 a.m.[…]. A traffic police officer stopped the perpetrator who was driving against the flow of traffic," South Tangerang Police traffic unit head, Adj. Comr. Lalu Hedwin Hanggara said on Thursday.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media after being uploaded by Instagram account @jktinfo. The video shows a man ripping off parts of his motorbike and hitting it with a stone.

When the police stopped the man, identified as Adi Saputra, 21, the latter tried to avoid the police officer, who was conducting traffic management at a U-turn near Pasar Modern Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD) market.

The police officer then ticketed Adi.

"The traffic violator got angry and shouted at the police officer. He also destroyed his own vehicle," Lalu said.

In addition to wrong-way driving, Adi was also not wearing a helmet and failed to show his driving license and vehicle registration document.

The police have confiscated the damaged motorbike.

Lalu said his side had promised to return the motorbike once Adi was able to show the required documents.

He added that the South Tangerang Police had deployed 73 police officers to tackle wrong-way driving.

Within a week, the officers have ticketed around 700 violators. (sau)
