ekasi Regent Neneng Hassanah Yasin, who is a suspect in a graft case involving the Meikarta megacity project, has submitted her resignation to the city’s council.

Bekasi Council Speaker Sunandar said he had received the letter on Feb. 11.

Following Neneng’s resignation letter, the council held a meeting on Friday to announce that Neneng was no longer Bekasi’s regent.

“The deputy speaker, Mustakim, read the letter to the council members before forwarding it to the Home Affairs Ministry,” Sunandar said on Friday as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.

Neneng was re-elected in the 2017 regional election for a second term and was paired with Eka Supria Atmaja who is now the acting regent.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arrested Neneng and several other regency officials in October last year, accusing them of accepting bribes from Meikarta’s developer.

The Meikarta modern city project in Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java, is the the Lippo Group’s flagship project. (vla)
