T

he National Police recovered two Pertamina gas trucks carrying 35 kiloliters of biodiesel fuel that 10 unidentified men had hijacked at 5 a.m. on Monday, the state-owned energy company said.

“We received reports of the hijacking and theft of fuel tanks carrying biodiesel. We reported this to the police,” PT Pertamina Patra Niaga spokesperson Ayulia said on Monday in a press statement.

Ayulia said that the two fuel tanks, bearing license plate numbers B 9214 TFU and B 9575 UU, were respectively driven by Pertamina truck drivers Muslih bin Engkon and Cepi Khaerul.

“We have found Pak Cepi and he is currently on his way to report the incident to the Jakarta Police,” she said.

Ayulia said that the truck hijacking and fuel theft occurred when the trucks were transporting the biodiesel to a gas station (SPBU) in Tangerang, Banten.

Just before the trucks entered the Ancol toll gate, 10 men climbed out of an open pick-up truck and yelled at the truck drivers during the hijacking.

“The drivers were threatened and forced to exit the trucks. The hijackers took over the fuel trucks and told the drivers that they were heading to the Presidential Palace,” said Ayulia.

She said that the truck drivers’ reports of the hijacking were confirmed by the company's GPS tracker, which showed the two trucks heading toward the National Monument (Monas).

After the police recovered the two trucks, they resumed their journey to the intended destination in Tangerang, Banten, she said.
