Police detain PSSI acting chief for tampering with evidence

he National’s Police antimatch-fixing task force arrested Soccer Association of Indonesia (PSSI) acting chief Joko Driyono after an interrogation on Monday in Jakarta.
The force’s chief, Brig. Gen. Hendro Pandowo, said Joko would be detained for 20 days from March 25 to April 13.
“We interrogated the suspect starting at 10 a.m, conducted a preliminary hearing for him at 2 p.m and detained him after,” Hendro said as quoted by tempo.co on Monday.
The task force previously named Joko a suspect for allegedly destroying evidence, which hampered the police’s investigation into match-fixing allegations in Indonesian soccer leagues. On Feb. 14, Joko allegedly broke into the PSSI disciplinary committee office, which at that time had been cordoned off by the police.
According to Hendro, Joko faces charges under several Criminal Code (KUHP) articles, such as article 363 on robbery, article 233 on destroying evidence and article 235 on issuing a fake instruction.
Prior to Joko’s arrest, the police previously named three suspects in relation to the case, namely Joko’s driver Muhammad Mardani, as well as Musmuliadi and Abdul Gofar, who work as office boys at the PT Persija and the PSSI offices respectively. The suspects were allegedly ordered by Joko to destroy important documents related to match-fixing. (dpk)
