tate-owned railway operator PT KAI's operational region (DAOP) 1 Jakarta has added 11 inter-city trips to its schedule to accommodate passengers on Election Day and Easter.
The election, which falls on Wednesday, is a national holiday and comes one day before Good Friday.
Eva Chairunisa, spokesperson of PT KAI DAOP 1 Jakarta, said the 11 additional trips with 5,512 seats had been operating since Monday and would end on Sunday. Of the 11 routes, eight depart from Gambir Station while three depart from Pasar Senen Station in Central Jakarta.
“[The trains head from Jakarta] to Bandung and Cirebon in West Java, Kutoarjo and Solo in Central Java and Yogyakarta,” she said in a statement on Tuesday.
From Gambir and Pasar Senen stations, KAI regularly operates 58 train trips that can seat 34,804 people. Thirty-two trips with 15,286 seats depart from Gambir, while 26 trips with 19,518 seats leave from Pasar Senen.
During the election, city-owned bus operator Transjakarta will reduce its operations for efficiency. The company will only deploy 1,300 buses, which is half the total number of buses the company owns.
“In the previous elections, the number of passengers was between 55 and 60 percent of the number of passengers during work days,” Transjakarta operational director Daud Joseph said on Monday as quoted by tempo.co. (das)
