Presidential contender Prabowo Subianto asked his supporters to remain peaceful and act in accordance with the constitution during mass prayers held in front of his house in South Jakarta on Friday.
Prabowo addressed hundreds of his supporters on stage, accompanied by National Mandate Party (PAN) patron Amien Rais, Gerindra Party deputy chairman Fadli Zon and economist Rizal Ramli. His running mate, Sandiaga Uno, and officials from his other coalition parties did not appear on stage.
"I want my supporters, who respect the law, to prioritize the constitution. Don't be easily provoked," he said.
He added that certain people had tried to frame him and his supporters as if they were plotting "something sinister", but he gave an assurance that such rumors were groundless.
He added, however, that his side would not accept any obvious violation in the real count of the votes, adding that they would act in accordance with the constitution to ensure justice and fairness are restored.
"Mass gathering, voicing opinions and marching on the streets are guaranteed by the constitution," he said.
He claimed that there had been efforts to nullify ballots, adding that his supporters must help safeguard C1 vote tally forms, which record the final vote count of each polling station, at the district level.
"Make sure the figures they input to the vote count are the same as recorded on the C1 forms," he said.
He also asked his supporters to continuously pray to God for his victory.
Quick counts conducted by various pollsters have shown that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is expected to win the election by a comfortable margin.
Prabowo, however, has rejected these results, claiming to have won the election based on his campaign’s own vote count. (ars)
