enny Indrayana, one of the lawyers of the Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno legal team challenging the result of the 2019 presidential election, has rejected an argument that says news links are not a viable form of evidence during the first hearing of the challenge at the Constitutional Court on Friday.

"It is wrong to say that links to news are not valid evidence," he said on Friday.

According to Denny, to provide news as evidence is in accordance with Article 36 of Law No. 24/2003 on evidence that can be used in court.

The article states that the forms of evidence that can be used during a hearing include letters, witness statements, expert statements, statements from parties, instructions and information that is said, delivered, received or accessed electronically.

Denny said the news he used as evidence was published by credible media organizations, such as Kompas, Tempo, detik.com, kumparan.com, tirto.id and Republika.

"We trust the content of the news and we respect the media that fact checks before publishing news,” he said.

He said it was up to the justices to decide whether the news was a legitimate form of evidence.

"We are letting the judges assess the strength of the evidence," he said.

The court, led by chief justice Anwar Usman, started its first hearing session on Friday, with the final decision expected to be announced on June 28. (awa)
