Aceh Ulema Council bans online game 'PlayerUnknown's Battleground'

The Aceh Ulema Council (MPU) has issued a fatwa against the online shooting game PlayerUnknown’s Battleground (PUBG), claiming it promotes bad behavior.
“Aceh’s MPU has prohibited PUBG and similar games from being played in Aceh,” MPU Aceh deputy head Faisal Ali said on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.
He added that the council had conducted a study on the game and held a hearing with IT and fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) experts as well as psychologists during the Aceh MPU’s 2019 Plenary Meeting.
The council ruled that PUBG was a bad influence on its players, who gradually become bad-tempered and addicted to the game.
“[Children] become upset if their parents forbid them from playing it [PUBG],” he said, adding that this also happened among married couples.
Faisal said the MPU had also come up with recommendations for related institutions to oversee and promote the fatwa among the public
“It has to be supported by all elements [in society], not to mention the government, parents, and internet providers.” (asp)
