photo of roaming deer has gone viral, prompting Ragunan Zoo management to deny the animals had escaped from the zoo in South Jakarta.
The photo’s caption said the deer were wandering around the Ragunan residential area.
Ragunan Zoo promotion department head Ketut Widarsono confirmed that the photo had in fact been taken inside the zoo.
“The deer were inside Ragunan [Zoo], not in the residential area," he said on Thursday, kompas.com reported.
"The population is controlled to more or less 50 deer,” he added.
Ketut said the zoo was spacious enough to allow the deer to roam.
“The deer were indeed strolling outside their cages,” he added. (sau)
