T

he capital’s tourism and culture agency, in collaboration with the National Monument’s [Monas] site management, has initiated a hologram exhibition that showcases the historical timeline of the capital in celebration of Monas Week 2019.

The exhibition is being held at the National History Museum located on the ground floor of the monument from July 23-31.

During a sneak peek of the exhibition, a glimpse of Jakarta’s transformation was showcased. The timeline goes as far as the Sunda Kelapa Era to the start of the Reform Era.

Plenty of information was shared in the exhibition, such as Jakarta’s name during Japanese occupation [1942-1945], Jakaruta Tokubetsu Shi, the construction of Jl. Sudirman [1949-1953], the Welcome Monument, Hotel Indonesia and Bank Indonesia [1953-1962], the inauguration of Jakarta trams [1960], and the era of Jakarta’s longest-serving governor, Ali Sadikin [1966-1977].

The holographic images were projected on a 4 by 6 meter hollow screen with a specialized projector behind the screen to absorb the high-resolution images.

According to exhibition creator Adi Panuntun, the main goal of his hologram was to provide an interactive and immersive way to inform the public, especially millennials, on the history of the city.

“The three-dimensional and holographic visualization will take the audience on a time machine-esque journey from the pre-colonialism era to the post-independence era. This is an ‘out-of-the box’ method that we think should be more effective than school textbooks or encyclopedias,’ said Adi on Monday.
