n attempt to smuggle rusa deer allegedly hunted by poachers on Komodo Island was foiled by a joint team of the Indonesian Military and Police in Bima, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).
“The evidence seized comprises eight deer, seven dead and one alive, allegedly hunted on Komodo Island,” NTB Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Purnama said on Thursday in Mataram.
Purnama said the alleged smuggling attempt was revealed on Wednesday in Pantai Lariti of Soro village, Lambu district.

“When the patrol team saw them, the people ran away. But the team arrested Y, the driver, and seized the evidence,” Purnama said.
Purnama said that right now Y was being detained by the Bima Police to be interrogated further.
Smuggling deer from Komodo Island through Bima was rampant, said Purnama. “We routinely patrol the areas often used for smuggling,” he said.
Deer on Komodo Island were a protected species, and it was illegal to remove them from the island, dead or alive, Purnama said.
