Counterterrorism squad Densus 88 has arrested three suspects in two districts in Blitar.
he National Police’s Densus 88 counterterrorism squad apprehended three terrorist suspects at three different locations in Blitar regency, East Java, on Friday.
Blitar Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Adewira Negara Siregar confirmed the arrests.
“Densus 88 arrested three suspected terrorists,” he said.
The first arrest was made of Kurniawan Joko Wicaksono, 48, at his home in Kepanjen Kidul district at around 4 p.m.
Kurniawan’s neighbor Suparti confirmed the arrest of her neighbor.
“The police wanted me to talk to the suspect as a diversion before they stormed in and made the arrest,” said Suparti.
According to Suparti, Kurniawan moved to the neighborhood three years ago and operates a laundry business.
The second arrest was of Subagio, 53, at his house in Wlingi district at 6.30 p.m.
According to neighborhood unit (RT) head Didit, Subagio normally sells food in front of a pharmacy in Wlingi.
At Subagio’s house, books, a CPU and a sickle were seized as evidence by Densus 88.
The final arrest was of Joan Puji Santoso, 47, at his home also in Kepanjen Kidul at 8.30 p.m.
Joan’s neighbor Sugiono, 63, said he did not suspect his neighbor was involved in terrorism.
“He and his wife were very friendly and usually involved in voluntary work and almost always attend neighborhood meetings,” said Sugiono.
Adewira said the suspects would be transferred to East Java Police’s Mobile Brigade (Brimob) headquarters in Sidoarjo for interrogation. (bry)
