T

he bodies of two tourists believed to be a mother and daughter from Saudi Arabia have been found after they got into difficulties swimming at Ketapak Beach in Selong Belanak village in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

The two victims have been identified as Jamilah Abdul Malik, 45, and Elham Abdulsalam, 26. Their bodies were found by authorities on Sunday afternoon.

“The two victims were tourists from the city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Both traveled to Lombok and were staying at a private villa in the Senggigi area, West Lombok,” said Wiswananda, spokesperson of the Mataram Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas).

Wiswananda said the two victims along with other tourists had traveled to Selong Belanak on a tourist bus from Senggigi on Sunday before deciding to go swimming at Ketapak Beach at around 2 p.m.

Around half an hour after arriving at the beach, Jamilah was swept away while swimming. Elham attempted to help her mother but was herself dragged away by the strong waves at the beach.

A number of village-level security and public order officers (Babinkamtibmas) and people nearby searched for the two women.

“The bodies of both victims were recovered at around 5:30 p.m. and were taken to the Bhayangkara Regional Police Hospital in Mataram, NTB,” Wiswananda said. (syk)
