Public holidays for 2020 set. Would-be holidaymakers can rejoice
The longest stretch of public holidays will fall in May, with the Ascension Day of Jesus Christ and Idul Fitri falling back to back.

ould-be holidaymakers are now able to start planning vacations for next year as the government has finalized the list of public holidays for 2020.
There will be 20 public holidays next year, which includes four mandatory collective leave days as stipulated by a joint ministerial decree signed on Tuesday by Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Minister Syafruddin, Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin and Manpower Minister Hanif Dhakiri.
As stipulated by the decree, the longest stretch of public holidays will fall in May, starting with the Ascension Day of Jesus Christ on May 21 immediately followed by mandatory collective leave days and national holidays for Idul Fitri from May 22 to 27.
February, September and November next year are the only months without any public holidays, according to a list on the Cabinet Secretariat's official website setkab.go.id.
For those who want to arrange their annual leave dates and plan vacations, below is a list of public holidays next year as stipulated in the decree:
National holidays:
1. Jan. 1: New Year’s Day
2. Jan. 25: Chinese New Year
3. March 22: Ascension Day of Prophet Muhammad
4. March 25: Nyepi (Day of Silence)
5. Apr. 10: Good Friday
6. May 1: International Labor Day
7. May 7: Waisak
8. May 21: Ascension Day of Jesus Christ
9. May 24-25: Idul Fitri
10. June 1: Pancasila Day
11. July 31: Idul Adha (Sacrifice Day)
12. Aug. 17: Independence Day
13. Aug. 20: Islamic New Year
14. Oct. 29: Birthday of the Prophet Muhammad
15: Dec. 25: Christmas
Mandatory collective leave days:
1. May 22, 26-27: Collective holidays for Idul Fitri
2. Dec. 24: Collective holiday for Christmas
Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Puan Maharani, who led the meeting to determine 2020 public holidays, specifically called for ministers to take note of mandatory collective leave days for Idul Fitri as it would affect the homebound exodus for the Islamic holiday. (dpk)
