he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) during an operation on Sunday arrested North Lampung Regent Agung Ilmu Mangkunegara for alleged involvement in a graft case related to a project in the regency.

Agung was among at least seven people, including officials with the North Lampung regency administration and from the private sector, apprehended by KPK investigators in a string of raids on Sunday and Monday morning

“The seven people are being transported to Jakarta by land. They have just landed at the [Bakauheni] port. They will cross the Sunda Straits to be brought to the KPK headquarters in Jakarta for further processing,” KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said in a statement on Monday morning.

KPK deputy chairman Laode M. Syarif said on Sunday that according to the antigraft body’s investigation, they suspected cash had been given to the head of the local administration.

“We suspect that it’s related to projects at the Public Works Agency and Cooperative, Industry and Trade Agency in North Lampung Regency,” Laode said on Sunday, Antara News Agency reported.

Febri said the KPK has confiscated up to Rp 600 million (US$42,388) in cash as evidence. (ami)
