oordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Wiranto was attacked by an assailant using some form of sharp weapon during a working visit on Thursday to Pandeglang, Banten.

The assault happened after the senior minister attended the inauguration of a university building in Sindanghayu village, Saketi subdistrict, local news media bantennews.co.id is reporting. It appears a police officer was injured in the attack.

"We are still seeking confirmation but from the photos that we have seen the local police chief was stabbed, stabbed in the back," National Police spokesperson Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo told The Jakarta Post over the phone on Thursday.

In photos and video circulating in social media, the man attempted to stab Wiranto shortly after the latter got out of his car.

According to bantennews, Wiranto was immediately taken to Berkah Pandeglang General Hospital, it is not yet clear whether the minister was injured in the incident.

In a separate press conference, Dedi said the Banten Police had arrested one man, identified with the initials SA, and one woman, identified as FA, following the incident.

He said the man had allegedly been exposed to radical teachings that led him to launch the attack.

“The police are still investigating the motive behind [the attack] as well as the background of the two,” Dedi said.
