P

resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has hinted that the Democratic Party may join his Cabinet following a meeting with Democratic Party chairman and former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) at the State Palace in Central Jakarta on Thursday.

“We did talk about that, but we haven’t reached a decision yet,” Jokowi told reporters after the meeting as reported by kompas.com reported.

The Democratic Party is not part of the current government coalition.

Jokowi and 2019 presidential election running mate Ma'ruf Amin are slated to be inaugurated as president and vice president, respectively, on Oct. 20.

Jokowi added that Yudhoyono had not offered the names of ministerial candidates from the Democratic Party as of yet.

“We haven’t reached that point yet,” Jokowi said. “You should ask Pak SBY directly.”

However, after the one-hour meeting, Yudhoyono immediately left the palace without speaking to the press.

Jokowi escorted his predecessor to the front door and returned for the press conference alone. (ami)
