he Karo Police in North Sumatra have arrested the Payung police chief for alleged involvement in a drug trafficking syndicate.
The police chief has been taken to the North Sumatra Police detention center for interrogation.
Karo Police chief Sr. Comr. Benny Hutajulu said the police had also arrested three other drug dealers implicated in the same case. All of them were arrested at Kambing Bridge in Payung subdistrict, Karo.
According to Benny, the police also found 5 grams of crystal methamphetamine with the suspects.
"Our investigation indicated that the Payung police chief was involved in this drug trafficking operation, hence we immediately arrested him," Benny said on Friday.
"We want this case to be handled objectively. We will not be cherry picking the suspects," he said.
North Sumatra spokesman Sr. Comr. Tatan Dirsan Atmaja confirmed that the case was being handled by the North Sumatra Police.
He also emphasized that the National Police would never tolerate its members who broke the law, especially for drug cases.
"It's a form of our commitment to eradicating drug trafficking in the country," Tatan said. (dpk)
